During the emergency session today the Yerevan City Council appointed former deputy prime minister Tigran Avinyan as Deputy Mayor of Yerevan.
In his remarks Mayor of Yerevan Hrachya Sargsyan said that by joining the team and having an experience of working in public administration system Mr. Avinyan will have a chance to use it in Yerevan.
In turn Avinyan said that every position or a status is just a mean to fulfill goals, ideas and solve problems.
“I was often asked, including by my colleagues at the My Step faction whether it’s not problematic of being appointed Deputy Mayor of Yerevan after the position of the Deputy Prime Minister. I want to say for sure and sincerely that regardless of my previous position, of all the discussions connected with upcoming elections, it’s a great honor for me to be the Vice Mayor of my hometown Yerevan, serve the city and its residents”, he said and thanked for this opportunity.
The session was attended by 44 members of the City Council.
The confirmation hearing for Avinyan was scheduled on September 13, but it was delayed because of the latest aggression of Azerbaijan on Armenia.
The ruling Civil Contract party has already officially announced that their candidate for 2023 Yerevan City Council elections is Tigran Avinyan.
