The Russian Football Union (RFU) has filed an appeal against the decision of FIFA and UEFA to suspend all Russian national teams from international competitions to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), an official at the communication service of the RFU told TASS.
On February 28, all Russian national teams and clubs were suspended from participation in FIFA and UEFA competitions due to the situation in Ukraine.
On March 3, the RFU announced that it was going to dispute this decision of the international organizations.
“The RFU has filed an appeal today to CAS,” the official said.
Due to the sanctions adopted by FIFA, the Russian national team is currently unable to participate in the March play-offs to qualify for the final of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. On March 24, the Russians were supposed to play with the Polish national team, and in case of victory, they were to meet on March 29 with the strongest team in the Sweden-Czech Republic pair.
